Description
This dramatic landscape in pastels measures 11" by 15" and is framed. It is signed by the artist, Gail Bach, who has spent time in Iceland, much of it in the fantastical countrysides of the volcanic regions. Gail says of her work, “It is all a process. In visiting and observing nature … it is as if I am observing nature for the very first time. Everything is exhilarating, the life force, all is transformed. Encountering the force of nature is parallel to encountering your own self for the first time as well. Everything is interconnected, your body is encountered for the first time again. You are renewed. It is this essence of encountering primal energies that I choose to depict. If you as a viewer can receive a whiff of that from my work, then I have succeeded.”Gail Bach was born in Richland Center, Wis., and now lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. Gail has had one-person shows at the Cité International des Arts, Paris; the A&P Gallery and White Columns, New York City; the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md.; Anderson Gallery, Marsh Gallery-University of Richmond, and Richmond Artist’s Workshop, Richmond, Va.; and Kurtz Cultural Center, Winchester, Va. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions including shows in New York City; Washington, D.C.; London, England; San Bernardino, Calif.; Harvard University, Columbia University, and Yale University. Bach graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Art, and received her M.F.A. in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 1988-1989 she completed the year-long studio program at the Whitney Museum in New York City. Gail has received a Yaddo Fellowship (1991), Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowships (1997 and 1993) and a Kalani Honua Fellowship (1994). Bach has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and has been Artist-In-Residence at the Studio-In-A-School Association in New York City. She is currently registered as an Artist-Teacher with Vermont College-Norwich University in the MFA in the Visual Arts Program. She is past Director of Envirosite, an environmental artists organization, and is a founding member of C.A.I.R.N., a New York City group of artists working with environmental issues.
