Description
This is an original painting by Lamar Dodd done in 1964. It was one of the works featured in the "Lamar Dodd: A Retrospective Exhibition" that was held at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, from September 27, 1970 - November, 1, 1970 and at the Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, from November 15, 1970 - January 15, 1971. It is featured on Page 85, Plate 74 of the Book "Lamar Dodd: A Retrospective Exhibition" that was published in 1970 by the University of Georgia Press, Athens, Georgia 30601. This publication was for sale at the Show locations. It featured photos and information of the 93 Works by Lamar Dodd in the Exhibit. Information on this piece, as explained in the publication, is as follows: "The Quiet Sea" 1964, polymer on paper, mounted on matboard 7 1/2" X 22 1/4", signed and dated lower right. This is a hand-signed, dated original Painting. It is not a reprint or reproduction of any kind. This Work will arrive in its original frame, matted behind glass, ready to hang. The Original Art Work up for acquistion in this auction easily appraises for over $40,000.00. It is a wonderful, serious piece that commands attention and invokes all senses and sensibilities of the viewer to appreciate its depth and enrichment infusion. Because of the magnitude of this Work; it is ideal for the Art Museum, with limited budgeting, in need of Major Work at a more than reasonable price. It is ideal for Major Art Museums that want to expand their inventory and add a monumental American Work. It is ideal for the Art Collector who wants a Major Work by a recognized American Artist. It is ideal for the Private Investor who appreciates Fine Art and wants to combine investment with enjoyment. As a bonus item; the person or museum will also get a unique item along with this Painting. It is the Customized Wood, Leather, and Brass Hand-Crafted Art Supplies Case that Mr. Dodd designed and had made to his specifications. He used it when he went on-site to paint. It held all of his art supplies, paints, brushes, papers, and necessities for painting and drawing. There are several wood compartments, trays, and areas within the case for specific items. Half of the case is sealed off to store paper for drawing, sketch pads, and a watercolor block. In this same section is an all wood drawing board that he used. A couple of clamps and a natural sponge that he used in his artistic creations are inside another area. This Wood, Customized Case is very heavy and approximates 30 pounds. The outside dimensions are 22" across, 18" from top to bottom, and 6 1/2" depth of inside storage, with half cordoned off for paper, as explained. My 7 lb. dog sits next to the case in the photos to help the viewer determine the size of the case. At the time that Mr. Dodd had this case made; he told me that he had another one also made by the same person for him that was smaller, but a similar version. He had already given that case to a family member, when he gave this one to me. He told me that he could no longer use this case on location because it was too heavy for him to carry at that point in his life. Delivery Confirmation and Insurance are included in the shipping fee. These items will need to be shipped separately; so I plan to pick up the difference in the shipping expenses. Extra care in packaging will be undertaken by necessity. Thank you for your interest.
