Description
Wholesale Lot of 10 - LeMay – Chess, Planning The End Game - Signed and Numbered – Size 11"x14" The Compositional challenge chess games usually present, the “hole in the middle syndrome,” is brilliantly solved by showing several games at once, adding a three dimensional design solution to the problem. This signed and numbered, 11x14 limited edition print is taken from the very innovative LeMay drawing in cross-hatched color marker pens done at Rosselimo’s Chess Studio, New York, circ. 1969. Harry LeMay, a man of many careers, is listed in Whos Who in American Art, Whos Who in America, and Whos Who in the World. In the 1950s and '60s, he worked as an art director, designer or illustrator for the Columbia Record Club, RCA Victor Record Club, Capitol Record Club, Readers Digest, Life Magazine, Pfizer, AT&T, IBM, Dell Books (and others !). During this amazingly busy period, he still found time to draw and paint. His exhibition record is extensive, including a very successful one-man show at the Empire West Gallery in Los Angeles in 1970, a twenty-five year retrospective in 1980 at Kenny Gallery in New York, (which featured 320 major pieces). Most recently, JeanMarc Gallery in Los Angeles gave him a 70 piece solo exhibition. His eminently desirable works are featured in hundreds of collections around the world. Classified as a Master Teacher by the City of New York, Harry taught for 19 years at the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan. Later, after moving to Los Angeles, he taught drawing at the LA County High School for the Arts, Santa Monica's Rustic Canyon, and the Park La Brea Art Center.
