The original artwork of the Split Rock Lighthouse was completed in the year 1997. The opening of the mat area is approximately 7 1/2” x 9 1/2” and the mat size is 14” x 16”. The purchase includes a gray double mat with a v-groove and the pen that created this original artwork. This purchase is directly from the artist. This original is signed by the artist. Any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail me. Split Rock Lighthouse is located just north of Two Harbors, Minnesota on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. The lighthouse was built in 1910. The tower of the lighthouse is 54 feet tall and the cliff it sits on is 168 feet above the lake level. GREAT PRICE! Behind the eyes of this artist . . . In the late 1980’s, I had a passion and desire to create a series of pen and ink drawings in the style of pointillism. It was a style that takes a lot of patience and is very challenging. It is a style and technique that allows you to capture the images with elegance and fine detail. With many artist’s creating beautiful works of art in watercolors, oils, acrylics and pastels, I decided to capture my creations in the world of black and white. Next was thought of a subject matter. What could I create that not only satisfy my imagination, but also the imagination of others. The objective of my artwork is to draw images that would help rekindle fond memories of these historic structures. These memories include visiting a lighthouse when you were a child, a family picnic at a covered bridge or a stay with a loved one at a romantic Queen Victorian Inn. The objective is also to bring awareness, to help with the preservation of these structures and to educate people of all ages in the fine art of pointillism. I have been successful in my objectives based on the feedback from teachers, instructors and also in e-mail correspondence from all over the world. I spoke to many students of various ages and grades about the style of pointillism. It has been a very positive experience for the students and it captured their attention and imagination. Between my collection and commissioned projects, I've completed over 150 pieces of artwork. As the years go by, I’ve been blessed with the support of my family and friends to continue my collection of drawings. With the inspiration of others, I’ve discovered another meaning of my artwork. I know that lighthouses are built for stability and durability to weather storms, to help save lives at sea. With the tragedies, the storms, that may occur in our personal lives in our world today, for many people the beacon of light from a lighthouse is a symbol that represents a sense of survival, strength, hope and peace. Today from my heart, it is more rewarding and an inspiration for me as a person, to create artwork that may give an emotional lift to others in finding a calmness in their lives.
