Offered here is a Rare  Original Etching of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s “Le Chapeau Épinglé No. 3” or “Pinning of the Hat No. 3” which was a Study of Julie Manet, the Daughter of the Famous French Impressionist Painter, Berthe Morisot. Seated with her is her cousin; adorable portrait of two young girls, as one pins a hat with flowers to her hair. We brought this piece to the Philadelphia Museum of Art who authenticated it as being a rare limited edition c.1000 Second State Printing, which was published for the Album, “La Vie Artistique” by Gustave Geffroy in 1894. Pierre-Augusta Renoir (1841-1919) was a leader of the French Impressionist Art Movement and is widely known today for his expressive portraits and use of vibrant light. This piece shows his expressive style in a lovely portrait scene. Julie Manet was a favorite model of Renoir’s; her mother, Berthe Morisot, was married to the painter, Eduard Manet’s Brother. The lines are strong, crisp and clear indicating this is one of the earliest editions, as authenticated by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This rare second state printing was made circa 1894 before all the reprinted editions. We have included a copy of the Catalogue Raisonné given to us by the Philadelphia Museum of Art for reference. Signed in the plate at lower left; this etching was never hand signed. Etching is framed behind glass in a wooden frame with white wash. Item is in excellent condition; rippling to paper with very minor yellowing/foxing. Minor wear to frame with some chips to finish at joints.
